An Urban Vancouver Walk

There will be a special walk in Vancouver, Canada for REGULAR walkers on June 5, 2013. It will be an urban walk and involves driving to Oakridge Mall where there is free parking to catch the Canada Line Sky train ($1.75 one way for seniors, Visa accepted) to the Olympic Village area.

Vancouver Street Scene

Vancouver Street Scene

This area was purpose built for the winter Olympic athletes of 2010.  Since then, many more condominiums have been added, as have parks.  We will walk from Olympic Station in an easterly direction around the sea wall past Science World, which you may choose to visit ($21-$27).

The walk continues west towards Yaletown, filled with shops and cafes.  After a look around here, we will walk again to just under the Granville Street bridge.  There we will hop on an Aquabus ($5 Cdn cash) to cross False Creek on the way to Granville Island for lunch at the Sandbar restaurant, or the venue of your choice at the Market.

Your carpool can decide whether to spend some more time at the Market or begin heading home.  We will continue walking east to the Olympic Station, making a circle.  Then retrace our route back to our parked cars, and home.

Our walk will be about four miles and offer interesting architecture and the many gardens, parks. The whole walk has water views and the sea wall is flat and paved.

Time: The group will meet at Fred Meyer Bakerview at 8:15 am for an 8:30 carpool departure.  Return time will be determined by each carload.

Important: Drivers must be paid a $10 gasoline fee.  Nexus drivers will only accept Nexus passengers.  Everyone else must bring a passport.

Interested participants should contact walk organizer, Carola Anderson, to reserve a space.
