Hiker Chick End-of-the-Year Party

Hiker Chicks,

It is time for our end-of-the-year party to include lunch, the sharing of favorite stories from the trails, a brief meeting, and a fundraiser. (Yep, you read that right.  See details below.) No need to R.S.V.P.

When:      Tuesday, November 1 from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm

Where:     Fairhaven Park Building, just to your left as you enter the park. Parking just to your right as you enter the park.

Lunch:     Bring along your favorite sack lunch.  Tea and cookies will be provided.

Hike: For those of you who would like to walk that morning we will be meeting in the parking lot at 10:15 and leaving at 10:30.  Annette Holcomb has offered to lead us through the Fairhaven Park, known often as the Hundred Acre Woods.  (Yes, some of us have done this recently but we think it is worth repeating.)

Gear Fundraiser:

Do you have gear that you are no longer using?  Check out your boots, poles, shirts, pants, water bottles, whistles, etc.  Bet you have a few things!  Bring them along with a price attached.  We will sell to one another with all the money going to the youth outdoor education program at the North Cascades Institute.  We want to have those kids fall in love with the mountains and all we have enjoyed for so many years!.  Bring cash or a check, no credit cards.

Global Warming!

What a summer it has been in our corner of the world, but our walkers and hikers commented time and again about the lack of water, lack of snow and unusually warm days.  Some good news is that the Curtis Glacier is still there on the western slope of Mount Shuksan  Amy shared pictures from the hike to Lake Ann.

Busy Hiking Day on Mt Baker

June 30th: Hikers hit the trails at Mt Baker for wildflowers, lakes, waterfalls, a little snow, fabulous vistas and marmots – but no mountain goats.
